Authentic Spanish jug made of porous clay. It is a clay container that cools the water by evaporation. It has two openings; a wide one to pour the water and a small nozzle to drink it.
It is recommended to prepare the jug for use avoiding that the water later acquires a clay flavor. The most popular way is with alcohol. It should be filled with a mixture of water and the alcoholic drink of choice and then allowed to sit for a couple of weeks. The mixture can drink if desired.
The way to use it is to fill the jug with water through the large hole, then it should be covered with a cork or a piece of gauze and kept outdoors, in a shady place. To drink the water you have to grasp the handle of the jug with one hand and hold the lower part with the other hand. Lift it up and tilt it allowing water to flow out of the nozzle. It should drink without touching the spout with the lips.

Se recomienda preparar el botijo para su uso evitando que luego el agua adquiera sabor a arcilla. La forma más popular es con alcohol. Se debe llenar con una mezcla de agua y la bebida con alcohol de preferencia y luego dejarlo reposar por un par de semanas. La mezcla se puede beber, si se desea.
La forma de uso es llenar el botijo con agua por el agujero grande, luego se debe cubrir con un corcho o un trozo de gasa y mantenerlo al aire libre, en un lugar sombreado. Para beber el agua hay que agarrar el mango del botijo con una mano y sujetar la parte inferior con la otra mano. Levantarlo e inclinarlo permitiendo que salga agua por la boquilla. Se debe beber sin tocar el pico con los labios.
